This blog post is meant to produce you with a general summary of vital steps needed to start your soap making business.

Why soap business?

Soap is a product used everyday by people and can never go out of demand, rather can only fall short of supply. Soap is used for many purpose including bathing, washing cloths, plates and other things. There will always be demand for soap, soap be assured of selling so far you have a nice product.

How to produce:

Soap making Needs extensive knowledge of it especially when its taken as a business, but then its not the hardest thing to learn, you can learn it in a matter of days and start production even with little capital. No one becomes a guru overnight, All you need to do is to start, try, learn, and perfect.

There are many ways of making soap, some of this basic method are.

1. Cold Process Method

This is a tried and true technique of soap making and therefore the one I used when I initially getting down to find out how to create soap. It begins with melting the hard and soft oils along and then mixing in a very caustic solution.

The oil mixture and caustic solution must first be brought to similar temperatures (usually around ninety degrees Fahrenheit).

Once the oil and caustic have been combined, the mixture is mixed with a whisk or stick mixer till it is thick (called trace) and then poured into a soap mold.

This method needs the use of a heating element to soften the oils and a thermometer to check temperatures. It then must cure for four to six weeks before it is used.

2. Hot Process Method

Many soap makers like this method because it speeds up the time it takes for the final soaps to become hard. Many soap makers will use hot process soap as soon as it can be cut though I prefer to let it cure for a couple of weeks.

With this method you melt the oils and and blend in the lye solution (no need to check temperatures). You blend until the soap is thick and then you cook the soap until it is very thick (resembling mashed potatoes) and somewhat translucent. It is then scooped into a soap mold and allowed to cool.

This method tends to produce a soap that is a little more rustic in appearance than the previous method.

3. Melt and Pour Soap

Most of you have probably heard about melt and pour soap making. It is a ton of fun and a great place to start when you want to learn how to make soap. With this method you do not need to use lye since melt and pour is a soap base that has already been made. The lye stage of the process has already been done for you.

All you have to do is cut up the soap, melt it, add your color and scent and pour it into a soap mold.
Once it has cooled and hardened, you can use the soap right away.
